Sadie Engelhardt Breaks HS Indoor Mile Record

---

Sadie Engelhardt has done it again-this time making history in New York City.

On Saturday at the Millrose Games, the 18-year-old from California became the fastest high schooler ever in the girls' mile, running 4:27.97 in the prestigious Wanamaker Mile. Engelhardt's stunning performance broke Mary Cain's U.S. high school record of 4:28.25, set in 2013 at the same event. She also became the first American high school girl to ever break 4:28.

Competing in a loaded field of 11 professional runners, Engelhardt positioned herself near the back of the pack, using the pace to pull her to the record. She ultimately finished 11th in the race, which was won by Great Britain's Georgia Bell in 4:23.35. Americans Heather MacLean (4:23.41) and Nikki Hiltz (4:23.50) rounded out a tight top three.

Engelhardt already held the high school outdoor mile record with a 4:28.46, which she set this past May. Just one week ago, she moved to No. 2 all-time in the indoor mile with a 4:29.34 at the New Balance Grand Prix in Boston. This time, she left no doubt-taking sole ownership of the overall high school record.

Her list of accomplishments is nothing short of legendary. Engelhardt is the reigning national champion in the mile and 1,500 meters. She holds multiple California state records, including the 1000m (Indoor), 1,500m, 1600m and mile. In all she has 3 California State XC titles, 4 Californai State Track titles, and 7 indoor/outdoor national titles, alongside a bevy of other records and course records.

With her name firmly etched in the record books, Engelhardt's dominance continues, and it's clear her best is still ahead.
