The first full weekend of 2025 lived up to the hype as athletes around the country navigated Winter Storm Blair. Whether they were making their way to 'The Big Apple' or heading South, athletes got their new year off to a strong start.
The National Performer of the Week poll will close at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, January 9, and the winner will be announced shortly after.
Take a look at five of the top-performing girls from last weekend.
This Week's Nominees:
Dana Wilson, Greensboro Day School (N.C.): In her senior debut, the future Tennessee Volunteer notched a 55m PB at the JDL Run Fast Invitational. Wilson clocked 6.84 in the prelims and followed that up with an electric 6.78 showing, the fastest time in the country this season. Trailing only Shawnti Jackson (South Granville), Wilson is now the second-fastest over 55m in North Carolina history.
Elise Cooper, McDonogh School (Md.): At The Armory Hispanic Games over the weekend, Cooper took on the 55m/400m double, ultimately winning both events. After finishing second in prelims of the 55m, Cooper broke the tape in 7.15 in the finals, nearly winning by a quarter of a second. In the 400m, Cooper clocked 54.01, a new PB and the top time in the country.
Jasmine Robinson, The HEAT Track Club (Ga.): The junior took on three events in her first meet of the season, running the 200m, 400m, and 60mH at the KYA HS Indoor Classic. Robinson finished third in the 200m, clocking 24.54 (PB), and second in the 400m in 56.14. Her best performance of the day was in the 60mH, where she clocked a new PB of 8.49 en route to the victory. Robinson currently sits atop the national leaderboard in the event.
Veronica Vacca, Mount Saint Joseph (Pa.): In her first competition of the year, Vacca soared above 14-0 at the LA Salle Winter Series in the 'City of Brotherly Love', winning the event by two feet. Vacca is the only girl to have cleared anything higher than 13-9 and is one of just six girls in the country who has cleared 13-0. Although it wasn't a PB, Vacca is still three inches shy of her indoor best.
Meagan Ewers, Medgar Evers College Prep (N.Y.): The senior thrower has had a hectic competition schedule up to this point, having already competed at five meets since the beginning of December. Her most recent performance was at The Armory Hispanic Games where she threw both the shot put and weight throw, winning the latter. In the shot, Ewers finished seventh with a toss of 36-4.25, while winning the weight throw with a lifetime best of 55-4.5, the top time in the country this season.
