Date: May 30th, HOKA Festival of Miles
Breakdown: Two historic national high school records were broken just 10 minutes apart at the HOKA Festival of Miles in St. Louis. Virginia's Allie Zealand kicked things off with a time of 4:30.38, breaking the previous national record. Shortly after, Ventura junior Sadie Engelhardt, whose own record of 4:31.72 was surpassed by Zealand, ran a 4:28.46 in the professional women's mile, setting a new national record. Engelhardt's strong finish included a 63-second final lap, securing the record.

May 4th:
At the 2024 Texas UIL State Championships, we witnessed the fastest high school 4x100m relay ever. National Record holders Humble Atascocita entered with a season best run of 38.92, Duncanville entered with a season best run of 39.73, and Galena Park North Shore showed up at the meet with a season best time of 39.98, with Katy Tompkins right on their heels at 40.01. The results of this loaded 4x100m race lived up to the hype, with all four teams running under 40 seconds. Humble Atascocita set a new NFHS National Record with their winning time of 39.14, with Duncanville right behind them at 39.47. North Shore ran 39.79 and Tompkins ran a time of 39.85. Northwest freshman Cooper Lutkenhaus made history at the UIL 5A 800m final, breaking the freshman national record with a stunning 1:49.84, surpassing Brandon Miller's 1:49.87 from 2017. Despite a congested field that delayed his move to the front, Lutkenhaus surged ahead before the 650m mark and unleashed an unstoppable kick to claim victory. The Duncanville boys (TX) set a new national record in the UIL 6A boys 4x200 relay with a time of 1:22.25, lowering the previous mark by a full second. As defending state champions, Duncanville entered the UIL State Meet with the fastest time in the state at 1:23.42. The race was tight, with Duncanville, Katy Tompkins, and The Woodlands running in close competition. May 6th:
Ben Smith made a historic mark at the Fond du Lac Quad meet, setting a Wisconsin state record in the shot put with a 75-foot, 1-inch throw. The Hortonville High School senior had been consistent throughout the season but had yet to surpass 70 feet. His throw was 12 feet farther than the next-best mark and placed him as the 32nd high school athlete to reach 70 feet and the sixth to surpass 75 feet. Vance Nilsson made history at the AIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Mesa, Arizona, breaking the 300-meter hurdle national record. The Gilbert High School standout not only set the record but became the first high school boy to run under 35 seconds, clocking a time of 34.83 seconds. At the FHSAA Class 3A Championships, the Plantation American Heritage boys made history with the first sub-40 performance in Florida state history for the 4x100 relay, clocking a U.S. No. 2 time of 39.39 seconds. At the PIAA Track and Field State Championships, Drew Griffith ran an astonishing 3:57.08 in the 1,600m, marking the fourth-fastest time in U.S. high school history. Griffith shattered Alan Webb's 2001 NFHS record of 3:59.51 and also broke Gary Martin's PIAA and PA state records, previously set at 4:01.56 and 3:59.55, respectively. Continue reading...
