Top Moment

Date: April 26th, Penn Relays Carnival

Breakdown: Union Catholic delivered a historic performance on Friday at Franklin Field, as sophomore Jimmiea King, senior Peyton Hollis, and freshmen Sophia Thompson and Paige Sheppard shattered the national record in the 4x800. The Vikings stopped the clock at a blistering 8:41.20, smashing the previous record of 8:43.12 set by Eleanor Roosevelt (MD) in 2008. This electrifying effort secured UC's second straight 4x800 Championship of America title at the 128th Penn Relays, making them just the second U.S. team to ever repeat in this event, joining New Jersey powerhouse Columbia (2013-14).

Best of the Rest

April 1st:

The Bullis School (MD) girls made history at the Florida Relays, running a 3:35.23 in the 4x400 to set a new national high school record. The race was tight, with Bullis, Miami Northwestern (FL), and Montverde Academy (FL) all leading at different points. In the final 200m, anchor Morgan Rothwell made up a 20m deficit to take the lead and hold off Miami Northwestern. April 7th:

At the Arcadia Invitational on Saturday night, Ventura (CA) High School senior Sadie Engelhardt won the girls invitational mile with a time of 4:34.31, a new U.S. No. 1. She finished nearly three seconds ahead of Timpview's Jane Hedengren, who clocked 4:37.17. Engelhardt's performance is now the third-best outdoor time in history. Continue reading...

April 20th:

Sadie Engelhardt set a new high school national outdoor record in the mile on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays, clocking 4:31.72. The Ventura (CA) High School junior broke Katelyn Tuohy's six-year-old record of 4:33.87 and also ran a 1,600m split of 4:29.86, placing her among the top performers in the event's history. Engelhardt now holds the outdoor mile record and is targeting the overall national record of 4:28.25 set by Mary Cain in 2013. Engelhardt's season has been marked by rapid improvement, including a U.S. No. 1 1,500m time of 4:09.70 in March and a personal best mile of 4:34.31 at Arcadia. Continue reading...

Christian Miller shattered the American U20 100m record at the Pure Athletics Spring Invitational in Clermont, Florida, running 9.93 (+1.6). The 17-year-old from Creekside (FL) improved on his previous personal best of 10.08 from the 2023 USATF U20 Championships. Miller's performance is the fastest in the world this year and moves him to No. 3 on the U20 all-time list, behind Issam Asinga (9.89) and Letsile Tebogo (9.91). The previous American U20 record of 9.97 was set by Trayvon Bromell in 2014.

April 21st:

Sadie Engelhardt and her Ventura High teammates-Melanie True, Valentina Fakrogha, and Aelo Curtis celebrated breaking the 13-year-old national record in the distance medley relay at the Mt. SAC Relays. Their time of 11:21.85 surpassed Harvard Westlake's 2011 record of 11:22.23. True led off with the 1,200m, followed by Fakrogha's 400m, Curtis' 800m, and Engelhardt anchoring the 1,600m. Engelhardt made up a 25-meter deficit on the final leg, passing Rylee Blade and securing the win. The performance also broke Great Oak's 2016 Mt. SAC Relays record by nearly 20 seconds.
