Despite the mud-caked course and pouring rain, Nike Cross Nationals lived up to the hype, highlighted by a historic girls race.
Along with Jane Hedengren's record-breaking performance, there were a lot of athletes that knocked off over a minute from the time they ran in 2023.
Lone Peak's (Utah) Brielle Nilsson was the top improver, finishing 46th in 18:22, 70 seconds faster than her time as a sophomore.
There were five girls behind Nilsson that all took off over a minute from their previous times, including both Braelyn Combe and Rylee Blade, the speedy duo from Santiago Corona (Calif.). Combe clocked 18:12.6, who lowered her time by 68 seconds, while Blade ran 17:54.5, 66 seconds quicker than her last time out.
