Californians Dominate at the ASICS Clovis XC Invitational

---

The ASICS Clovis XC Invitational was a "who's who" of elite runners from across the West Coast, showcasing some of the top talent in high school cross country. Leading the charge was Crater High School's Josiah Tostenson, who captured the individual title with a blazing time of 14:41.30. He edged out Griffin Kushen of Tesoro, who finished close behind in 14:43.80; Kushen had previously won the Large Boys race last year and nearly secured the Championship race title this year. Tostenson's teammate Tayvon Kitchen secured third in 14:44.50, giving Crater a strong 1-2 punch. Rounding out the top five were Broen Holman of Sonora, clocking 14:46.40, and Landon Pretre of Menlo School, finishing fifth in 14:51.50.

In the boys' team competition, Arnold O. Beckman (SS) delivered a thrilling come-from-behind victory, rallying late to beat two MileSplit top 25 teams, Crater and Jesuit (SJ). Beckman's depth proved decisive, finishing with 83 points and a tight 33-second 1-5 split, averaging 15:24. This incredible effort secured them the win after placing seventh last year. Jesuit (SJ) took second place with 97 points, with their top five scorers finishing 7-11-18-24-37 and maintaining a 28-second 1-5 split for a 15:28 average. Crater finished third with 116 points, anchored by the strong 1-2 finish from Tostenson and Kitchen, though their larger 1:21 1-5 split resulted in a 15:19 average.

Just when you think Sadie Engelhardt couldn't get any better, she goes and wins the ASICS Clovis XC Invitational for the second year in a row, beating some of the best runners the nation has to offer. The Ventura High School senior set a new personal record, finishing the race in 16:24.20, which is now the #1 time for the season and the #14 5K time of all time. Rylee Blade of Santiago Corona followed closely behind, securing second place with a time of 16:31.30, which marks the #2 time nationally this season. Summer Wilson from Irvine and Hanne Thomsen of Montgomery rounded out the top four, finishing in 17:08.80 and 17:10.40, respectively.

In the team competition, Buchanan (CS) clinched the victory with a strong performance, finishing with 65 points and an impressive 1-5 split of just 31 seconds, averaging 17:54. After finishing third last season, Buchanan took down the defending champions, JSerra Catholic (SS), who placed second with 104 points. Santiago Corona (SS) finished third with 119 points, bolstered by Blade's strong finish. Buchanan's depth and consistency proved vital as they continue to build on their momentum this season.
