On a course that has seen some of the greatest distance runners in the world win national championships, the top high schoolers in the country had the opportunity to battle it out on the historic LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The 2024 Nike XC Town Twilight yielded quick times as the perfect weather and fast competition combined for electric results.
When it was all said and done, nearly 150 high school girls had lowered their times from this same meet a year ago, with 50 shaving off at least a minute.
Rendy Zhong, a sophomore out of Columbus (Ind.) North, was far and away the biggest improver, running 20:10.2. A year ago, Zhong clocked 28:26.9, but took 8:16.7 off in her second trip to Terre Haute, showing a great deal of improvement as a sophomore.
