This California star's season of accolades continued on Thursday at the ESPYs.
Sadie Engelhardt was named Gatorade's Best Female Player of the Year during ESPN's year-end awards honoring a selection of the top professional, collegiate and high school athletes in the country.
Cooper Flagg, the distinguished five-star basketball player from Maine who starred at the Florida-based Montverde Academy in 2024, was named as Gatorade's Best Boys Player of the Year.
Engelhardt was presented her trophy by former WNBA star Candace Parker and Connecticut women's basketball standout Paige Bueckers.
"I was so excited to win Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Player of the Year, and now to be named Best Female Player of the Year is crazy to me," Engelhardt said. "All the athletes in this group are amazing, and I'm so honored to be here celebrating our hard work on and off the field."The Gatorade Best Player of the Year announcement is the culmination of an unparalleled Gatorade Player of the Year."
Engelhardt was named Gatorade's Female Player of the Year over the outdoor track and field season in June. Christian Miller, the record-breaking sprinter from Creekside High School in Florida, was the boys Player of the Year and was also in attendance for the ESPYs on Thursday.
Engelhardt finished her outdoor season with an appearance at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene in the women's 1,500m. Her season included an outdoor national record in the mile with a time of 4:28.46, along with a 1,500m best of 4:08.86 and an 800m PR of 2:03.48.
