ICYMI: Drew Griffith Pulls Away In Penn Relays Boys Mile

Maybe the record fell out of reach at some point past the halfway mark on Friday at The Penn Relays presented by Toyota for Butler High School Drew Griffith.

But at no point was it ever in doubt.

The Notre Dame University recruit paced his way to a win in the Championship of America boys mile in 4:03.35, securing his first win at the esteemed meet. It was the second-best time in history, only behind Gary Martin's performance of 4:01.04 from 2022.

Griffith, the nation's leader at the distance with a time of 4:00.77 from April 19, was operating in back-to-back weeks.

He dispatched second-place Ryan Pajak, a familiar foe from Pittsburgh, who finished second in 4:10.28, and Colin Eckerman, who was third in 4:11.50.
