National Boys Performer Of The Week (4/15-4/21)

Ridge Point's (TX) Mason Dossett keeps winning both on and off the track, this time picking up the win over National Performer of the Week voting. 

Dossett is currently riding an eight-race win streak and has posted a dominant 14-2 record since February. His nation-leading performance of 13.27 seconds at the Texas Relays is ranked No. 4 all-time in the high school ranks. But he followed it up with a time of 13.35 at at his UIL District meet and now has cruised through to the state championships after his 13.39 regional performance.

Dossett picked up a whopping 84.52-percent of the votes to be named the National Performer of the Week. Just like last week, voting for this week's poll will close at 12:00 on Friday.

This Week's Nominees:

Christian Miller, Creekside (FL): Over the weekend at the PURE Athletics Spring Invitational, Miller etched his name into high school history as he stopped the clock in 9.93, a crisp new American U20 record. As of now, Miller is the fastest man in the world and is one of only two people on the planet to run under 10.00 at any point this year. He still has few more hundredths of a second between him and  the World U20 record, but after this dazzling performance who knows what else he has on deck.

Drew Griffith, Butler (PA): Griffith came incredibly close to becoming the second high schooler under 4:00 this year, but he crossed the line at the 59th Annual Butler Invitational in 4:00.77, which is now the top outdoor time this season. The Notre Dame-bound senior had an astonishing 17 seconds between him and the rest of the field. Griffith now sits No. 2 in Pennsylvania history, trailing only Gary Martin's mile performance of 3:57.89 from 2022. 

Niqualas Chew, Elgin (OK): Just like that, the defending Oklahoma Class 5A state champion is at the top of the national leaderboard. At the 52nd Titan Invitational, Chew leapt to a new wind-legal PB of 25-3.5 in the long jump, winning the competition by over three feet. According to our database, Chew is the second best long jumper in state history, sitting behind Derrick Locke (Hugo HS) and his record of 25-4.75. Over the weekend, Chew also competed in the 4x100m, 4x200m and 100m.

Jackson Cantwell, Nixa (MO): Over the weekend at the Kansas Relays, Cantwell won both the discus and shot put, remaining undefeated in both events on the year. In the discus, Cantwell threw a new sophomore national class record of 205-4, winning by nearly 20 feet over a strong field. Cantwell became just the third sophomore to ever throw over 200-0, etching his name in the record books. In the shot put, Cantwell won with a toss of 69-0, winning by almost seven feet. Cantwell sits No. 2 and No. 1 in the nation this season in both events.

Bryce Barkdull, Andover Central (KS): Make that nine trips over 17-0 for Barkdull this year, and a new national lead for this outdoor season. At the Kansas Relays, the future Jayhawk put on a show on his future track, clearing the bar with a new PB of 17-7, outlasting Macon's (MO) Caelan Harland on his final attempt. Barkdull set a new meet record, and also broke his own state record, becoming the 21st high schooler to ever soar over 17-7.
