What's going to happen when Jelani Watkins, Caden Durham and Kendrick Jones line up in the 100m?
We forecast a fast final.
The heavy favorite is going to be the LSU football recruit Watkins. The Humble Atascocita senior enters the spring season as one of the fastest sprinters in the country and he's coming off a win recently at the Millrose Games, where he ran 6.68 seconds in the 60m. That currently places him at U.S. No. 3.
In 2023, he went 10.33 in the 100m. Durham and Jones will give him a run for his money, though.
As a junior, Durham finished third at the UIL Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 100m with a time of 10.53. Jones, the Nike Outdoor Nationals champion in the 100m and runner-up in the 200m, holds a best of 10.39.
If you look closer to his resume, Jones claimed the UIL Outdoor Track and Field Championship title in the 200m and was fourth in the 100m.
Watkins might be the sharpest one on the track as he has eight indoor races under his belt. Meanwhile, Durham and Jones will be having their outdoor season debuts.
