There are a few different factors that separate top-end milers, but one of the most important factors is closing speed.
A lot of athletes can push the pace from the gun and gut it out down the home stretch, but those with blazing 400m speed can pull away from the field.
Out of some of the best milers in the country, we found that Oak Knoll's (NJ) Reagan Moore has the best quarter-mile closing speed of her competitors.
Paired nicely with her 5:14.05 mile PR, Moore has run 56.65 for an open 400m and is the only miler under 57 seconds in the country.
The fastest miler in the country to have also raced a 400m is Hunter College Campus School's (NY) Dylan McElhinney, who has raun 4:44.19 and 58.80.
