Let's take it back to 2019.
Nathan Green, who is now a distance star at the University of Washington, had a great race in the 1,600m at the Simplot Games.
The Boise native ran a 4:24.39 through the prelims to win his race and advance to the finals. Green, who was only sophomore at the time competing for Borah High School (ID), came back to race the finals and ran away with the win in 4:18.74.
Green seemed to show a slight feeling of shock when he learned his new time landed him around the U.S. No. 12 mark at the time.
When comparing his prelim race to his final, Green stated "Thursday was more of like a shakeout" and characterized his finals day stating, "let's get going."
The 1,600m race came down to the last 100m, but Green came out on top. Green is currently in his third year competing for the Huskies and is among the top 1,500m runners in the country.
