You want to know just how exceptional Avery Lewis' long jump was on Saturday at the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival?
Try this.
She surpassed her own Pennsylvania state indoor record by three and a half inches.
Lewis claimed a new PA state record with a mark of 21 feet, 6 inches inside Lehigh University's indoor venue in Bethlehem, adding padding to her already superb former record of 21-2.5 from 2021.
Before Lewis, though?
The best long jump mark owned by a Pennsylvanian not named-Lewis is 20-2.5, and that mark was last accomplished by Penn Wood's Dawn Burrell in 1991. What's interesting in that performance is that, at the time, it was the sixth-best effort in high school history and the top mark of the season.
So Saturday's moment must have felt good for Lewis.
The last time she reached 21 feet was in 2021, back when the Philadelphia area athlete was just a freshman.
She's been in a good run of form lately, though. Lewis is coming off an outdoor best of 20-9.5 from this past June at New Balance Nationals Outdoor.
The performance marked her second mark over 21 feet.
It also moved her up to No. 4 all-time, only behind the likes of Tara Davis (21-11), Lanae Tava-Thomas (21-8) and Carol Lewis (21-7.5).
Now, the cherry on top?
Lewis also won the 200m, posting a time of 24.32 seconds.
