Few races over the 2024 indoor season have been this fast, with this much talent on the line.
On Saturday, however, at the SPIRE Scholastic Showcase in Geneva, Ohio, the girls 60 meter final was the starting point for one of the best races of the year.
It featured Canadian first-year athlete Alexia Jones, Westerville Central's Olivia Pace and Springfield Holland's Maira Scott.
Jones won the day, scorching the track with a top time of 7.37 seconds.
That on its own was record-breaking, as it surpassed the Ontario Provincial U16 record of 7.58, which was last accomplished by Katurah Anderson of Lord Dufferin Public School. Moreover, it also scooted past the Ontario U17 record of 7.53, which was set by Khamic Bingham in 2010.
Pace and Scott weren't far behind, though.
The nation's No. 5 and No. 7 athletes at the 60m distance ran 7.38 and 7.49, respectively, giving the race three athletes under 7.50.
The only other single race to achieve that feat thus far has been The VA Showcase.
It was there that Mia Brahe-Pedersen, Adaejah Hodge and Brianna Selby set the nation's No. 1 (7.22), No. 2 (7.24) and No. 3 (7.28) times.
