This time last year, Patrick Hilby was a member of the Aurora Central Catholic (IL) High School varsity basketball team. It was a natural fit considering Hilby had played basketball since kindergarten.
This year, though, Hilby has decided to stop playing basketball. He made a similar choice last year when he quit football, a sport he had played as a freshman and sophomore.
Instead, Hilby is for the first time concentrating fully on track, the sport that helped him gain the attention of top colleges throughout the U.S. On Saturday in Boston, the Illinois middle-distance star will make his season debut in the international high school mile at the New Balance Grand Prix.
