WATCH: Logan St. John Kletter Makes Winning Move

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Logan St. John Kletter made a decisive move 400 meters into the girls mile championship on Friday at The VA Showcase.

She didn't look back.

Of course, she wasn't without challenges.

In fact, Cuthbertson's Charlotte Bell aimed for the outside with 200 meters left, but St. John Kletter held on, moved when she moved and then finished with a new U.S. No. 1 time of 4:48.08.

Bell was second in 4:49.89, while her teammate, Justine Preisano, was third in 4:51.22.

It was about as good tactics as you could have asked for.

St. John Kletter, who previously held a U.S. No. 1 time of 4:49.22 for the full mile at the MSTCA Holiday Challenge, later was outdone by Zariel Macchia's 4:49.10. She re-gained control of the national leaderboard on Friday.

Bell's performance landed her at U.S. No. 3, while Preisano ran a new U.S. No. 7 time.
