VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Welcome to the sub-37 club, Adaejah Hodge.
The Montverde Academy (FL) senior, competing at the 300 meter distance for the first time in her career on Friday, broke through the elusive time barrier in the USATF installment of the event at The VA Showcase, clocking a U.S. No. 4 all-time performance of 36.97.
The all-time rankings now go like this: Shawnti Jackson (36.63), Sydney McGlaughlin-Levrone (36.82), Francena McCorory (36.96) and Hodge.
To do it, Hodge broke the stagger almost immediately, swallowing up Elise Cooper on the outside. Then Hodge leaned on her speed endurance, out-legging runner-up Sydney Sutton, who finished second in 37.39.
Josie Donelson, the Lake Oswego teammate of Mia Brahe-Pedersen, followed in third in 37.89 seconds.
Sutton's performance puts her at No. 7 all-time, while Donelson's performance is inside the top 20 efforts in high school history.
