Jelani Watkins, 4-Star Football Recruit, Runs U.S. No. 2 60m

The Jelani Watkins Show did not fail to disappoint on Saturday at the LSU High School Classic.

The 4-star receiver from Humble Atascocita High School -- and formerly of Klein Forest -- warped through two rounds of the 60m, culminating with a U.S. No. 2 effort of 6.75 seconds.

The LSU signee Watkins held off New Orlean Warren Easton's Germain Smith-Mata's 6.78 and Frisco Heritage's Cordial Vann, who followed in 6.79.

All three athletes clocked times inside the nation's top five performances on the season.

The performance represented Watkins' debut for the 2024 season, while it was just a shade off his personal best of 6.67, which he accomplished in Lubbock last year.

What's more, though, Watkins did so on his future home soil. The Texan signed with the Tigers on Dec. 20 during the early period for football recruits.

Watkins led Klein Forest in 2023 to a Texas state Class 6A team title, winning the 200m out right and anchoring the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
