Emily Bush was on a mission on Saturday.
The Saratoga Springs (NY) senior ripped off a new U.S. No. 2 time for 3,000 meters, clocking a time of 9:28.89 to win the girls red championship at the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games.
After pushing out to an opening 3:06.50 over the first 1K and forming a 19-second gap, Bush came through the 2K marker at 6:19.32 before stepping on the gas over the final 1K and registering a 3:09 split.
The Providence College recruit, who ran a career best 4:50 in the mile on Dec. 27, was nearly a minute faster than Mainland Regionals' Gillian Lovett, who was second in 10:23.52.
Bush's teammates, Yue Tong Ang, Reagan Owen and Zoe Tamvada, were third, fourth and fifth in 10:27.62, 10:35.90 and 10:47.69.
Bush effectively clipped 23 seconds off her former personal best of 9:51, which she achieved in 2022.
Her performance is now seventh-best in New York history and 27th all-time across all girls performances.
