On Tuesday, Ventura's (CA) Anthony Fast Horse, the No. 8 athlete on the MileSplit50 cross country rankings, made his verbal commitment to the University Of Oregon.
In an Instagram post, Fast Horse said he was grateful for the opportunity to be able to compete in the NCAA over the next stage of his running career.
"I'm so excited for what's to come in the future as a duck!!" Fast Horse wrote.
Over the last few seasons, Fast Horse has made waves across the track and field and cross country seasons.
As a junior, he was fourth at the CIF State Cross Country Championships before finishing third in the 1,600m at the California Outdoor Championships.
This season alone, he's posted a new three mile personal best at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, clocking a time of 13:48; over the weekend, he added a 5K with a lifetime best of 14:32 at the ASICS Clovis XC Invitational.
Fast Horse will join the likes of Simeon Birnbaum and Connor Burns, recent graduates from South Dakota and Missouri who were a handful of the nation's top distance runners in 2023.
Earlier in June, twins Nicole and Samantha Humphries of Flower Mound (TX) also made their verbal commitments to Oregon as well.
Fast Horse will enter the spring season with personal bests of 1:55 for the 800m, 4:08 in the 1,600m, 4:10 in the mile and 8:51 in the 3,200m.
