Analysis: Despite having six cross country races underneath her belt, Hedengren made each and every one count.

After finishing as the runner up at the Utah Cross Country State Championships, Hedengren outran the competition in 2022 and set a new lifetime best of 17:25 for 5K to claim her first cross country title.

She then finished 11th at the NXN Southwest Regional Championships and her cross country season came to an end.

During the spring, she completely transformed into a distance star, set personal bests left and right and won national titles.

At Brooks PR, she won the mile in a 4:35, which was the fastest time in the nation. The rising junior won Nike Outdoor Nationals in the two mile with a 9:54 to be U.S. No. 3 and rewrote the record books as she clocked a sophomore class record. Hedengren even ran a 2:09 in the 800m to win the UT state title at this distance.
