Analysis: Rodriguez is the only freshman on the preseason national rankings because of what she accomplished in 2022. 

To begin her cross country season, she competed in the gold championship race at RunningLane Cross Country Championships, where she was the seventh-fastest competitor and finished with a new personal best of 17:55. She then became a USATF National Junior Olympic champion for 4K with a time of 14:03. She followed with a 6K effort of 21:42 at the USATF National Cross Country Championships, where she finished 17th overall.

Her year didn't end there. She would go on to set multiple age group World Records. At Nike Outdoor Nationals, she smashed her own 14-year-old World age group two mile record with a time of 10:12. In June, she broke her age group world record in the 5K with a time of 16:22 on the track. Her marks landed her at U.S. No. 16 and No. 29, respectively, among high school girls across the nation.

Rodriguez enters her freshman season with personal marks of 2:17 in the 800m and 4:50 in the mile.
