Analysis: Northwest Nelson is one of the dark horses going into this cross country season.
At the district meet last year, the Bobcats finished second to Southlake Caroll with a 5K average of 18:33 and had a 51-second split, which was one of the top performances in the nation last season.
The Bobcats will bring in a handful of freshmen this fall who can potentially help this time rise to new heights. MJ Novelli and Sammy Spicer, who played a major role in the success of the 2022 season, will return as leaders for the team.
The biggest question going into this season is how Northwest Nelson will respond to the deep competition in the state.
Northwest Nelson has the likes of two coaches who have experience with coaching state champions from two different schools.
