No. 24: Bentonville (AR)
- - -
Analysis: Bentonville might be best known as the home of Wal-Mart HQ, but what about cross country?
Are the Tigers developing a bit of a tradition in the Northwest corner of the state? They just might after five straight state championships in Class 6A.
This past season, Bentonville showed no signs of slowing down, with its top four runners all non-seniors. The Tigers have five returning in 2023, including their No. 1, James American Horse.
In total, Bentonville has four runners returning with times under 16 minutes for 5K. The tougher challenge will be beyond the state championships, however.
Biggest Question: Can Bentonville make a statement on the national level?
Bentonville faltered down the stretch last fall, finishing eighth at the Garmin RunningLane Cross Country Championships. That certainly wasn't the performance this team was capable of at the highest level.
But it's a new year with new ambitions. Arkansas' top team could make a statement by either winning NXR South or going after a RunningLane XC title in December.
