Analysis: Steorts broke on to the cross country scene in West Virginia as a freshman, finishing second at the West Virginia State Championships and finishing fourth in the freshmen division of Champs Sports South.
As a sophomore, though, he officially took off, claiming seven wins across the season, including big invitational victories at the Dutch Miller Invite (14:56.40) and the Louisville XC Classic (15:12.00). That good work led to his first West Virginia state title, an 11th-place finish at the Champs Sport South Regional (the championship section this time) and a fifth-place nod at the Garmin RunningLane XC Championships, which was an All-American performance.
Steorts was rocking-and-rolling over 2023. His spring followed with big PRs of 4:15.50 in the 1,600m and 8:54.19 in the 3,200m, not to mention his first 3,200m title in May.
