The latest distance stars to commit to the University of Oregon had breakthrough seasons on the cross country course last fall.

Nicole and Samantha Humphries, rising juniors out of Texas powerhouse Flower Mound (TX), developed into two of the nation's most consistent upperclassmen at the 5k distance.

And at last season's UIL Texas Class 6A Cross Country State Championships, they put that talent on full display in a quest for the best state meet finishes of their career.

Running stride-for-stride to the finish at Old Settler's Park in Round Park, the twins crossed the line with identical times, each clocking 17:36.40. An official review would give Nicole the slight edge over Samantha to officially earn the state crown.

That not only secured two top medals for the Humphries, but helped Flower Mound to a team title defense ahead of a talented Southlake Carroll (TX) program. Fellow junior teammate Alexandra Fox also earned a key third-place finish in 17:48.60 to complete the Flower Mound trifecta.

Heading into their senior cross country season, Nicole and Samantha each rank among the top 15 returners for the class of 2024 with 5k personal bests of 17:07.52 and 17:11.10 from 2022.s

Samantha and Nicole also rank at No. 24 and 25, respectively, in the latest MileSplit50 Class of 2024 girls recruiting rankings going into the 2023-24 competition year.
