EUGENE, Or. -- It wasn't so long ago that Tamari Davis was starring at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.
But on Friday, the four-time AAU Junior Olympic Games winner -- just 20 years old -- qualified for her first U.S. World team at the USATF Outdoor Championships, clocking a time of 10.99 seconds to finish third in the women's 100m final.
The 2021 Oak Hall School (FL) graduate said she built up confidence moving through the rounds, especially with a consistent 2023 season underneath her belt.
"Going through the rounds I was just staying positive, trying to make it through each round healthy," Davis said. "Once I stepped back onto the track for the final, I just focused on my lane and just carried my way to the finish line."
The anticipation grew as she waited for the results to appear.
And then it came: 10.99.
"At first I didn't know [I made the team] because it was so hectic, but when I saw the third place [name] pop up, I jumped for joy," Davis said. "I'm super happy and I definitely have business to do in Budapest."
Sha'Carri Richardson, a 2018 Dallas Carter graduate, won the title in 10.82 and Brittany Brown was the silver medalist with a 10.90.
Davis won AAU titles in the 100m and 200m in 2016 and 2017.
