AAU Throwback: Reese Vannerson Answers The Move In The 1,500

Long before Reese Vannerson earned the distance double in Texas -- sweeping the 1,600m and 3,200m state titles as a senior for Houston Strake Jesuit -- the Houston native was crushing it at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Five years ago, in fact, as a 13-year-old, Vannerson claimed a win in the 1,500m in 4:18.71.

Vannerson, the ultimate entertainer, made it a show.

While the Texan took out the lead over the first 900 meters, Riley Nedrow made a move  with 600 meters to go, taking the lead.

The fellow Texan pushed into the bell lap.

But then Vannerson answered at 350m, perhaps surprisingly, and then began to surge, never holding off the gas. Nedrow tried to respond but Vannerson held him off through the line.

The win highlighted Vannerson's performance at the 2018 AAU Junior Olympic Games, which also saw him podium in the 800m (third) and 3K (second).
