Who says racing for a scholarship doesn't have stakes?
On Saturday at the National Scholarship Invitational, an inventive high school meet meant to connect prospective athletes to collegiate coaches in a format where real scholarships are available, the boys 200m final didn't disappoint.
Two athletes from IMG Academy -- Caine Stanley and Davonte Howell -- along with Keontae Gaines, a JUCO athlete, went down to the wire in nearly identical fashion, with only a minor step separating the threesome at the line.
Caine Stanley, a high school junior and one of IMG Academy's promising sprinters, won at the line in 21.00 (+2.7) seconds, with a minor tailwind elevating his performance.
Gaines followed in 21.18 and Howell, an IMG senior, was third in 21.20.
