The Maryland State Championship may not have started like how Brody Buffington wanted.

While anchoring his 4x200 team to a 1A state title, Buffington celebrated coming across the finish line. As a result, the officials disqualified Catoctin for "unsportsmanlike conduct."

Buffington was able to bounce back as he won his first set of MPSSAA Outdoor State titles in the sprint double.

In the 100m, the Georgia commit sprinted to a new all-time Maryland state meet record of 10.35 (-1.3). He grabbed the 200m title in 21.06 (-2.2).

After finishing eighth and seventh in the 800m and 1,600m finals for the MPSSAA Indoor State Championships, freshman Marella Virmani of River Hill (MD) upgraded to gold. In the 4A classification, Virmani won the 1,600m title with a new personal best of 4:53.71 to be MD No. 1 in this event. Virmani also won the 800m title in 2:14.24 to set a lifetime best.
