The state of high school sprinting in the U.S. is on another level in 2023.
On Saturday, Gatlin Bair, a high school junior from Burley, Idaho, continued his upward trajectory, clocking a new wind-legal personal best for 200 meters, clocking a time of 20.47 (-0.1) at the BYU High School Invitational.
Bair ran the second-fastest time in the country at elevation (4,500 feet) and with a negative tailwind.
Watch out.
To put the icing on top, Bair also won the 100m in a wind-legal 10.25 (-0.1).
Of course, this is nothing new.
While Idaho athlete cannot break state records outside the state championships, Bair's current wind-legal PRs would be new state records. He's now run 10.25 on two separate occasions and 20.47 and 20.83 across two competitions in Utah and Oregon, respectively.
Idaho's state record marks, both held by Rocky Mountain's Dallas Burroughs ('11) are currently at 10.34 and 21.06.
