6. Breaking Down The Dogwood Track Classic

One of the top in-season meets in Virginia went down this weekend in Charlottesville, and it sure did produce some big performances.
Gillian Bushee, a senior from Herndon (VA) currently amid a breakout year, clocked a career-best time of 4:46.30 for 1,600m, taking the win and dropping over three seconds from her previous best at the distance.
Alexis Brown, a freshman from St. John's College (DC), pocketed a sprint double, winning the 100m in 11.94 and the 200m in 24.58.
Leah Stephens, the fast emerging distance superstar from Our Lady of Good Counsel, clocked her first sub-10 at the 3,200m distance, leading the field through a time of 9:58.79, which is currently U.S. No. 2.
Cassidy Scott claimed a win in the 800m in 2:11.28, while Tuscarora's Alysa Carrigan cleared 5-8 to win the high jump. Lily Ver Beek, of James River, won the triple jump with a mark of 39-9.5
On the boys' side, Salem's Peyton Lewis ran 10.50 to claim the 100m win, while Loudoun Valley's Jake Rimmel scored a 1,600m victory in 4:13.83.
Courtland's Chanan Mathis won the 200m in 21.25 while three boys went under nine minutes for 3,200m, led by Franklin County's Nathan Atchue, who ran 8:54.24.
Warhill's Leo Davis ran 1:52.61 for 800m and Grassfield's Jordae Edwards threw 64-0.5 to win the shot put.
