Nyckoles Harbor And Brody Buffington Square Off In 100 Final

It was the kind of high school 100 meter final you don't see very often.

Two of the nation's very best, from opposing states, faced off on Saturday at the Puma presents the East Coast Showcase in an electric field featuring some of the fastest athletes in the U.S. and Jamaica.

All eyes were on Archbishop Carroll's Nyckoles Harbor, the five-star track and football recruit from DC, along with Catoctin's Brody Buffington, the fast-emerging superstar from Maryland who had also recently signed with Georgia.

Each had run 10.20 or faster in the prelims, with Buffington clocking a U.S. No. 2 wind-legal time of 10.15 (+0.6). Harbor had gone 10.20 (+0.6).

On top of that, the pair also had to withstand efforts from Montverde Academy's Micah Larry and Zyaire Nuriddin, who were competing for the first time this season, and Jamaica-based athletes Adrian Kerr and Damor Miller.

So all that being said, did it live up to the billing?

It certainly did, with Harbor overcoming an early deficit by Buffington to take the win in 10.28 seconds, nabbing the victory by a hundredth of a second from the Maryland ace.

Ker was third in 10.40, while Miller was fourth in 10.56. Harbor's teammate, Dezmone Starks, ran 10.57 in another heat and finished fifth.

Larry ran 10.66 in his debut, while Nuriddin, one of the top 400m runners in the country, clocked a time of 10.74.
