PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The last time Jamaica College won the Championship of America 4x100 was in 2014, nearly a decade ago.
Today was their day, though.
Despite a near downpour, the Jamaican boys program dusted off their competition on Friday at the Penn Relays, dropping a time of 40.97 to earn their first title in nine years.
Archbishop Carroll, the high school outfit out of Washington, DC, was the first American team to finish, clocking a time of 41.19, just three hundredths of a second off of second place, which went to St. Elizabeth Tech (JAM).
IMG Academy, which may have been the pre-race favorite with the top time out of Thursday's prelims, mishandled the baton on the first hand-off and never recovered, finishing eighth in 49.56.
