Among the top 10 most improved girls in the 800m from the 2022 season to 2023 season are seven sophomores.

The overall most improved half-miler has been senior Angelina Vasquez, who has dropped 16.85 seconds this year to a time of 2:12.61. After Vasquez, the next five runners are all sophomores.

Among those five, only Sophia Bendet and Josee Simonson consistently run the 800m. Bendet finished fourth at the Texas State cross country meet this year and has already improved her 800m time by 12.48 seconds to 2:14.60.

Simonson, meanwhile, was an Iowa state qualifier in the 800m as a freshman and has dropped 10.27 seconds to 2:18.00. There has been a total of six girls who have improved by at least 10 seconds this year to drop their time into the 2:10s.

Anna Callahan was already an outstanding half-miler as a sophomore, as she clocked a time of 2:17....
