National Record And US No. 1 Marks Set At Arcadia Invitational

One national record. Plenty of meet records. Even more all-time efforts.

Simply put, the Arcadia Invitational did not disappoint.

And in the invitational fields on Saturday evening in California, numerous athletes

A big highlight of the meet has to be the boys 3,200m invitational in what shaped up to be one of the fastest races in high school history at the distance, led by winner Simeon Birnbaum in a US No. 2 all-time 8:34.10. In total, 44 athletes dipped under 9 minutes across the rated, seeded and invitational boys 3,200m sections at Arcadia.

Hana Moll also produced one of the top storylines of the competition as she joined the 15-foot club in the pole vault and set the new national outdoor record with her winning 15-0 clearance.

But the girls 3,200m also produced an exciting effort as Morgantown's (WV) Irene Riggs took the title in 9:52.66. Seven girls dipped under 10 minutes in the race, making for quite the showing at the distance.

In the sprints, Mia Brahe-Pedersen of Lake Oswego (OR) impressed with a sweep of the 100m and 200m, smashing the 100m meet record with a wind-legal time of 11.17 (2.0) and nearly breaking 23 seconds in the 200m with her 23.01 (0.7) effort.

We also saw the first sub-46-second 400m performance of the outdoor season in a thrilling boys invitational matchup. California star Dijon Stanley cruised to a 45.92 personal best -- his first-ever run under 46 seconds -- to beat out other top competitors like runner-up Jake Andrews and third-place finisher Jayden Davis.

And in the girls and boys 800m, fans were treated to new nation-leading marks. Newbury Park's (CA) Aaron Sahlman won the boys competition in 1:49.07, and Tyler Matthews and Andrew Regnier also went sub-1:50 for 2-3 in 1:49.32 and 1:49.35. A tight finish to the end on the girls side saw Mackenzie Brown grab the title just ahead of Allison Ince, clocking 2:03.07 to Ince's 2:03.17.
