Llyric Driscoll just wanted to beat her older sister. That's the only reason she entered throwing events as a freshman at Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, in 2020.

Driscoll's first year didn't turn out exactly as she had hoped.

While she didn't defeat her sister, JoEllen, who is now a thrower at the University of North Carolina, she did gain something else.

Just like her sister, Llyric is now a top recruit and one of the nation's most versatile high school athletes.

Earlier this month, Driscoll, now a senior, signed a scholarship with the University of Illinois, adding to first-year coach Petros Kyprianou's strong initial recruiting class. Kyprianou led Georgia to two NCAA team titles during his six years as the program's head coach before resigning in June 2021. He was named the Illinois coach in July 2022.
