The top highlight at the West Coast Relays was none another than Sadie Engelhardt.
The Ventura (CA) High School sophomore produced her fifth time under 2:10 for her career on Saturday in Clovis -- the site of the California state championships -- authoring a time of 2:06.71 to win by six seconds on the field.
It marked the second straight year for an Engelhardt win and it followed her performance of 2:05 from 2022.
Engelhardt went out in 1:01, forging a nearly 20 meter gap, before holding on through the next 200m and then finishing strong, extending a gap that never was challenged.
Engelhardt remains the top freshman track and field middle-distance athlete in the. U.S., with times of 58 seconds in the 400m, 2:06 in the 800m, 4:41 in the mile and 9:51 in the 2-mile.
