At the 2022 Penn Relays presented by Toyota, Juliette Whittaker opened up her outdoor season in the mile with an impressive performance in front of Franklin Field.
In the high school section, the Mount De Sales Academy (MD) graduate took the lead once the starting gun went off and she was able to separate herself from a loaded field of talented distance runners early.
As the race unfolded, it ended up being Whittaker racing against the clock as she was in the hunt for the 4:38.19 meet record set in 2019 by Victoria Starcher.
Whittaker pushed through the finish to secure the title with a 4:41.18, which was the third-fastest performance at this historic meet. Hannah Boyle was second in 4:46.50 and Mia Cochran was third in 4:47.17.
