2023 could very well be the year of the 4x800m.
Looking at the top returners this outdoor season in the boys 4x800m relay, a slew of talented programs return nearly-full squads, and some even enter having gone under 7:40 last time out on the outdoor oval.
Begin with top team Hinsdale Central (IL), who just won the New Balance Nationals Indoor 4x800m championship a couple weeks back. During outdoor competition in 2022, they posted a 7:32.15 nation best to win Nike Outdoor Nationals in June.
Three other teams behind Hinsdale Central boast sub-7:40 marks from last year, including Ridge (NJ), Mounds View (MN) and Columbus North (IN).
