VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- It was a special meet for Madison Whyte as she competed for the final time at the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Sunday at adidas Track Nationals.
Whyte, who is the fourth-fastest girl this indoor season in the 200m with a personal best of 23.08, defended her adidas 200m title with a 23.37.
"I'm feeling tired first of all," Whyte told MileSplit. "I'm also feeling really excited. It's kind of bittersweet of closing this high school indoor chapter of my life."
At New Balance Indoor Nationals last weekend, she finished second in the 200m final. This weekend, there wasn't any pressure to perform.
"I was seeing what I had left," Whyte said. "After two rounds of the 4x200m, and [having the 200m] prelims [earlier Sunday], I wanted to put it all out there."
Saturday evening, Whyte anchored Speed Evolutions Track Club's 4x200m where she unofficially produced a 200m split of 22.28. Needless to say, Whyte was shocked.
"I heard [about that]," Whyte said. "You really do run fast with a baton because that's insane! That's pretty cool, that's insane."
As the outdoor season is about to begin for Whyte, she's looking forward to dropping new personal bests and wants to defend her New Balance National Outdoor title. Last year, she won the title in 23.30 after she won the VHSL Class 4 State Championships. She enters her senior season with wind-legal marks of 11.63 in the 100m and 53.38 in the 400m.
