adidas Track Nationals Day 3 Snap Recap

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- We've reached the final day of competition at the last prep  indoor national meet of the season -- adidas Track Nationals.

An exciting slate of races and matchups will conclude action on day three, including championship fields in the 200m, mile, SMR, 4x400m, 4x800m, shot put and long jump.

Girls Mile Racewalk: Ruby Ray of Port Jefferson (NY) finished near her season best with a 8:00.94 title-winning effort on Sunday morning. In a close race for second, Camila Garcia earned the advantage over freshman Sophia DiCiero, clocking 8:40.96 to DiCiero's 8:49.61 for third.

Boys Mile Racewalk: The top performer in the country this indoor season -- Clayton Stoil -- continued his dominance with an adidas Track Nationals title in 6:55.86. Fellow competitors Colin Graham and Lucien Beardsley also posted strong performances, each going under eight minutes for 2-3 in 7:22.22 and 7:42.01.

Girls 4x800m: New England Elite (MA) didn't mess around in the first running event of the day as their "A" team clocked a US No. 9 9:10.74 to win the championship. A strong 2:14 anchor leg helped propel the club from Massachusetts to an impressive win. Delco United also dipped under 10 minutes to earn the silver medal in 9:52.29, and the New England "B' squad ran to a third-place finish in 10:05.99.

Boys 4x800m: New England Elite (MA) continued it's winnings streak in the distance relays on Sunday morning with another US No. 9 effort of 7:50.29 to win the boys title. 8:00.08 for Bullseye Running helped their relay squad to a runner-up finish, and Delco United logged an 8:04.00 effort to secure third place.

Girls 200m Semis: Madison Whyte of Speed Evolutions (VA) led all finals qualifiers as she eased her way to a 24.45 semifinal performance. Spartan Chosen sophomore Ruth Mcghee also sprinted under 25 seconds for the second-best advancing time of 24.83, and Mia Suero hit a time of 25.05 to grab third in the semis.

Boys 200m Semis: Saturday's 400m runner-up Sahfi Reed cruised to the top qualifying time of 21.77 at the shorter distance on Sunday morning. Just a hundredth off Reed's time was LC Express' Austen Diggs in a PR of 21.78, and 400m finalist Jayden Mims also posted a solid semifinal mark of 21.86. 

Girls SMR: Behind a monster 2:10 800m anchor, Eastern Elite TC grabbed the SMR title in a US No. 3 time of 4:01.78. Not too far behind with a strong effort was F.I.A. Lions in 4:03.45 for US No. 4 in 2023.

Boys SMR: In a tightly-contested battle for most of the race, Delco United TC came out on top in 3:31.28, good for the sixth-fastest time logged in the country this indoor season. Only half a second separated second and third places as Track 757 clocked 3:32.03 for silver ahead of Bullseye Running, who clocked 3:32.58 in the first of two sections.

Girls 60m: Brianna Selby of Speed Evolutions (VA) continued to do what she's done all weekend: win. The junior clocked 7.32 to win the event by over two-tenths of a second. Kenadie Singleton out of Intensity Athletics (GA) would earn the silver medal in 7.56, and Saige Forbes would steal third place with a PR of 7.61.

Boys 60m: The LC Express junior Austen Diggs followed up a strong 200m semifinals effort in the morning with a national-title winning performance in the 60m, running a PR of 6.92. Just a couple hundredths behind Diggs came Isaiah Luke of Flying Angels Canada in 6.94, while Keiton Fase took home a third-place trophy in a 6.98 PR.

Girls Mile: In a race that was rather close in its entirety, Reese Dalton managed to hold off a surge from Ryann Aycock of Cary Christian (NC) to win the mile in 4:55.79. Aycock would finish second in a PR of 4:56.24, followed by Lily Guinn a half-second back in third in 4:56.68.

Boys Mile: The race unfolded in a tactical fashion as Solomon Holden-Betts led a pack of guys through the majority of the race. But with about 400 meters to go, Christ School (NC) junior Dawson Reeves surged ahead and never looked back as he broke the tape in 4:16.89. Connor Reed would also finish strong to sneak into second in 4:20.81, and Holden-Betts would grab third with a time of 4:22.04.

Girls 200m: Madison Whyte out of Newport News Heritage and Speed Evolutions (VA) took control of this race and cruised to a winning time of 23.37. The second-fastest athlete in the qualifying round -- Ruth Mcghee -- would clock a 24.62 personal best for second, and Mia Suero would follow up her third-place finish in the semifinals with bronze-medal position in the finals in 24.98.

Boys 200m: Have a day, Austen Diggs. The LC Express (TX) junior doubled back from a 60m national title win to earn a 200m trophy out of lane six in a huge 21.40 personal best. That's a nearly four-tenths of a second improvement from the 21.78 PR that he set in the prelims on Sunday morning. Also having a big performance was Sahfi Reed with a 21.51 runner-up effort, and Jayden Mims would take third place overall in 21.72. 

Girls 4x400m: It was a tight battle going into the anchor leg, but Eastern Elite pulled out a win in 3:59.96 to go 2-for-2 in the girls 4x400m and SMR on Sunday afternoon. New England Elite and WAR TC fought for second and third, and it was New England that grabbed the silver in 4:01.03, and WAR TC earned bronze in 4:01.40.

Boys 4x400m: Delco United dominated the final event of the day with a 3:18.06 finish time for the win, which came only hours after the SMR. 

Girls Shot Put: On her sixth and final attempt, Theresa Breckley launched the shot out to a distance of 42-9.75 to win the adidas Track National championship. Gabrielle Paolella would take second with a big 41-0.5 throw in the last round, and Madison Stevens secured third with a 41-0.5 mark.

Boys Long Jump: Robbie Handelsman would leap 23-10.25 in the sixth round to secure a gold medal in the event to conclude jumps action at adidas. Going 2-3 were Maaliah Cabell and Walker Norris with marks of 23-2 and 22-9.5, respectively.

Girls Long Jump: In a close battle for first and second, it would be Kiara Davis that earned the national title with a 18-6.5 jump, less than six inches ahead of Asia Phillips of Flying Angels Canada in second with her 18-1.75 jump.

Boys Shot Put:
