Athletes rewrote the record books at Eastern Indoors on Saturday inside the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

To kick off the morning, freshman King Combest of Owensboro (KY) entered wearing a blue USA jersey and slotted into lane two of the 60m.

The 15-year-old was the first boy out of the blocks but was overtaken by Jasiah Rogers of Park Tudor (IN) who clocked a 6.91 to win

But Combest improved on his personal best to a 6.92 and became the fastest freshman so far this indoor season; he also moved up to No. 8 all-time for the class. This became his third performance this winter that broke the seven-second barrier in the short sprint.

Jakoby Graves of Central (KY) finished third with a 7.02.

* Claire Stegall clocked a 4:44.62 to set a new meet record in the mile

- - -

In one of the most anticipated races of the weekend, we saw a battle between Kentucky's Ciara O'Shea and Tennessee's Claire Stegall in the girls mile.

The five-time Kentucky cross country champion led the race from the gun, but Stegall only allowed a small amount of daylight between them for the first seven laps.

With one lap to go on the indoor oval, Stegall had another gear that was waiting to be unleashed. In her first indoor race of the season, the TSSAA cross country state champion finished with a 4:44.62 to break her own meet record which she set last year in 4:55. Stegall proceeded to climb the national rankings to claim spot No. 5.

The sophomore shaved 10 seconds off her previous best of 4:54 from the New Balance Nationals Indoor Championships last winter.

O'Shea finished second with a new personal best of 4:49.39. Tula Fawbush of Oldham County was the third girl to break five minutes in the mile with her 4:55.47 performance.

* Keegan Smith won the 800m in a new meet record of 1:53.50

In a competitive boys 800m field, it was dead sprint to the line as seven boys broke two minutes in the field.

Leading from the front over the final 200 meters was Colin Lakomek and Keegan SmithLakomek was out aggressively and took complete control of the race, until the last 100m.

Smith remained within striking distance until he decided to make his move on the final turn. The sophomore from Knoxville Catholic (TN) continued to rewrite the record books in Kentucky as he crossed the finish line with a new lifetime best of 1:53.50.

Smith dropped 11 seconds since his 800m opener at the KYA HS Indoor Classic the first week of January.

This performance moves Smith up to No. 11 in the country and No. 9 all-time in Tennessee history. Meanwhile, he also became the fastest sophomore and penciled himself in as the seventh-fastest sophomore in class history.

Lakomek dove at the finish line for second with a 1:53.60 and Noah Price of Liberty Christian School (IN) crossed the finish line in 1:58.36.
