Have a day, Cady McPhail.
The senior from Chelsea (AL) completed a grueling distance triple in winning fashion on Saturday at the Alabama 7A Indoor State Championships, winning the 800m, 1,600m and 3,200m.
But her state meet perfection came down to a final kick in the 3,200m in her last race of the event.
On the final lap, McPhail trailed just behind Huntsville's Ava McIntosh, and the race became a sprint to the finish between the two Alabama talents. But it was McPhail who surged ever so slightly ahead of McIntosh to win her third state title of the day in 10:56.86, less than a tenth of a second ahead of McIntosh's runner-up mark of 10:56.98.
That 3,200m rounded out a historic day for McPhail. The Auburn signee began the day with a win in the 800m in 2:11.63 and then took home the 1,600m title in 4:57.68.
McIntosh would also finish second to McPhail in the 1,600m in 4:58.01 and take fourth in the 800m in 2:17.07.
