Holland, Hodge & Montverde Continue Dominance At Florida/Georgia Challenge
It's become routine to see Montverde Academy's (FL) star girls sprinters Micayah Holland and Adaejah Hodge clocking all-time performances this indoor season.
This time at the Florida/Georgia Challenge, the duo did it again and remained consistent in their premiere 60m event with times of 7.23 for Holland and 7.26 for Hodge to go 1-2 in the event.
That makes for the third time each athlete has gone below 7.3 in the 60m in 2023 and the fastest marks recorded by the two since they went 7.21 and 7.24 for US No. 5 and No. 8 all-time at the VA Showcase.
Then on Sunday, Hodge continued her dominance with a 23.39 win in the 200m, good for the 10th-best time in American high school indoor history.
But Holland and Hodge weren't the only Montverde athletes to impress in Gainesville yet again over the weekend.
Michelle Smith bumped up in distance to the 600m and clocked a new nation lead and US No. 26 all-time 1:30.85 to produce one of the best highlights of the event. Fellow Montverde teammate Zyaire Nuriddin continued his own success in the long sprints as well with a 47.06 season best in the 400m, moving up to US No. 1.
One of the most surprising performances, though, came from IMG Academy's Jerrae Hawkins. Beating out nation-leader Issam Asinga and Nuriddin, Hawkins ran a US No. 8 6.73 to pull off the upset in the boys 60m in his IMG debut.
Asinga would get redemption, though in the 200m with a win in 21.01 on Sunday, beating out Wind Speed Athletics' Valentino Rudolph in 21.26.
The icing on the cake to wrap up the Gainesville action came in the 4x400m as both boys and girls Montverde squads put together US No. 1 performances of 3:15.31 and 3:48.89.
