There have only been three boys in high school history who dipped under 6.60 in the 60m.
Casey Combest set the national record with a 6.57 nearly 24 years ago at the Nike Indoor Classic. Anthony Schwartz, the IAAF World U20 silver medalist in the 100m, ran 6.59 at the 2018 New Balance Nationals Indoor to win the title.
And then there's Issam Asinga of Montverde Academy (FL).
The high school senior just added himself to that list as he tied for the second-fastest time in high school history at the Legends Of Alachua County Meet.
From the middle of the track, the Texas A&M signee posted a time of 6.59, surpassing Nyckoles Harbor's nation-leading performance of 6.64 from the Texas Tech Under Armour HS Invitational last weekend.
Asinga led Montverde Academy to a 1-2-3-4 sweep as Micah Larry finished second with a 6.69, Zyaire Nuriddin was third with a 6.84. Jayvian Greene, a junior, was fourth overall with a 6.88 performance.
Asinga shaved over a tenth of a second from his season opener at the VA Showcase when he ran 6.73.
