Having already broken two Alabama state records in the 800m and 1,600m this season, Chelsea's Cady McPhail had a different mission on Saturday at the Last Chance #2 meet in Birmingham.

Fine-tune ahead of the state championships, and qualify for three events.

That's precisely what the Auburn University signee did, authoring successive wins across three distances as she scooped up victories in the 800m (2:18.32), 1,600m (4:57.88) and 3,200m (11:29.82).

It continued a storied season for McPhail, who claimed her second sub-5 performance at 1,600m and her third effort under 2:20 for 800m. Nationally, she's No. 1 in the 1,600m and No. 2 in the 800m, while she's seventh in Alabama in the 3,200m.

But it was Maxwell Hardin, the senior from Auburn (AL), who registered the meet's lone U.S. No. 1. The Auburn University signee dropped the first sub-9 of his career, logging a top time of 8:58.87 on Friday.

Later, Woodward Academy's (GA) Madison Gardener engineered the nation's second-fastest 400m performance at the Last Chance #3 meet, producing a time of 54.31 seconds.

The junior from College Park, Georgia improved upon her Jan. 8 debut of 55.02 and was just two tenths away from tying her overall career best mark (outdoors) of 54.13.

In the boys 4x200, meanwhile, Hoover executed with a fine-tooth comb, pocketing the nation's second-best mark of 1:27.86.

The Alabama squad, which won the indoor state team title last year, is perhaps on pace again to do the same. They stand about a second off of Archbishop Carroll's top time of 1:26.42.
