Abby Faith Cheeseman constructed a career-best two-mile effort on Saturday at the KYA HS Indoor Classic in Nashville.
The Webb School sophomore, coming off her fourth-place finish at the Champs Sports National Championships on Dec. 10 in San Diego, California, dropped a U.S. No. 2 performance of 10:33.81 on the Vanderbilt University track, putting together an exceptional display up front.
A year ago, Cheeseman ran just one race indoors in Kentucky before shutting it down and moving on to the outdoor season, where she begun by claiming a sub-17 effort for 5K on the track at the Texas Distance Festival (16:53.64).
Cheeseman would finish her regular season by picking up a Tennessee Division 2 title in the 1,600m and a runner-up finish in the 3,200m, though she did not claim a PR.
A year old and stronger -- not to mention wiser -- Cheeseman looks to be on a path toward big things in 2023.
