Looking at the top indoor returners in the throws, there are a handful that stand out among the rest of the field.
Begin with the girls shot put, where Brentwood Academy's (TN) Mensi Stiff enters her senior season in a class of her own. She's the only returner with a mark over 50 feet from last year, throwing 52-8.75 to win Nike Indoor Nationals.
Similarly in the weight throw, Katherine Powers of Newburyport (MA) is the lone returning athlete with a 2022 best that eclipses the 50-foot mark. 51-3.5 for Powers gives the junior more than a three-foot advantage over the rest of the returning competition.
On the boys side, Jacob Cookinham of Bishop Stang (MA) has nearly three feet on the next best returner in the shot put, holding a top mark from last season of 66-1.
